The Importance of Balance Between Listening to Words and Energy
This may be a controversial topic, but one I feel called to explore.
In spiritual and self-development spaces, there’s often a heavy emphasis on listening to the energy behind words - sometimes even more than the words themselves.
And yes, energy does not lie. The vibration behind someone’s words often reveals more truth than the words they choose to speak.
But in my truth, to lean entirely on energy without listening to the actual words spoken is not only incomplete - it can become hazardous.
Words and Energy as Dual Forces
Words and energy are not separate. They are dual expressions of the same essence.
Words carry structure, meaning, and conscious choice.
Energy carries frequency, tone, and subconscious intention.
Together, they give us the full picture.
When we only listen to one and subtract the other, we risk misinterpretation. We filter reality through half-truths, closing ourselves off from the opportunity to see and feel the wholeness of what someone is expressing.
The Risk of Choosing One Over the Other
If we only listen to energy, we might assume we fully understand the vibration but dismiss the nuance of the story, the lived experience, or the specific needs someone is trying to communicate.
If we only listen to words, we may accept surface-level truths without acknowledging the deeper currents of misalignment, suppressed emotion, or unspoken intention.
In both cases, we dishonour not only the other person but also ourselves - because we deny ourselves access to a perception that could expand our awareness.
The Balanced Approach
True awareness comes from finding the balance between words and energy.
This looks like:
Listening to what is said, while feeling into what is not being said.
Honouring someone’s choice of words, while also noticing the frequency they are carried on.
Holding space for both the intellectual and the intuitive.
When we do this, we cultivate discernment. We build relational trust. We expand our own perception instead of narrowing it.
Ego and the Illusion of Superiority
In my truth, believing that one form - energy or words - is worthier than the other often stems from an unregulated ego.
When we declare, “I only listen to energy,” or “I only believe what people say, not how they feel,” we unknowingly create imbalance.
Balance is the key.
And balance requires humility - the willingness to admit that both words and energy hold value, and both must be heard for expanded growth.
Reflection Invitation
I’d love to hear your thoughts and perceptions on this:
Do you find yourself leaning more into words, or into energy?
Have you ever misjudged a situation by focusing on one and ignoring the other?
How might your connections shift if you chose to value both equally?
Closing Words
Words are the structure. Energy is the soul. Together, they are truth.
When we commit to listening to both, we don’t just expand our understanding of others - we expand our understanding of ourselves.
Balance is the key. 🔑
With awareness and honour,
